"What if terrorists attack in Trinidad"--A funny

Ah mean really.....wha go happen ?
Well ... if that happens, there can be no comparison. That's because in Trinidad , as a vision 2020 republic we are much betterprepared for these kind of attacks.
1. We do not construct exaggerated elevated buildings.
2. We all get on the job late in the morning, so at 8:45 there won't be sufficient people to kill.
3. Fire fighters and police officers will do their utmost NOT to get to the spot on time. They will reach there when everything is just about over, cordon off the area and complain about how WASA messinwith the hydrants again, everything will smoulder into ashes and an investigation will begin...maybe even a commission of enquiry........so you can bet there will be no casualties among them.
4. The BWEE flight would surely have fouled up the terrorists plans by being delayed yet again.
5. A Trini would not have used his cell phone to call home, providing that TSTT ain't down/over loaded etc.. In frustration he would've hit the terrorist with it over the head.
6. If a terrorist was living for one year in Trinidad he would've been robbed and beaten/molested so many times he would've (A) given up and gone back home long time ago or
(B) become a politician (safest way to rob and pillage people with a smile on yuh face)
7. In Trinidad the terrorists would not have gotten the flight manual, they would have had to bribe someone to bribe a politician to get a copy. You see... in Trinidad we are well prepared........

In addition
1) The chance of finding the twin towers: 0% Accidentally flying into El Tucuche :90%.
2) The first hard turn the planes makes the overloaded overhead compartments will open killing the terrorists instantly.
3) There is a good chance the passengers will have bigger/more advanced weapons than the hijackers.
4) Terrorists would then have to deal with wrath of drug lordswhose shipments got destroyed......Within a week : "35 suspected terrorists found beheaded in cane field.....sniffer dogs to be used in attempt to find heads"
5) Somebody would ah mako and tell somebody so within a week itwould've been printed in de bomb, punch, uhuru and probe.
6) The hijackers rental car would ah get tief and strip dong in the bamboo long time.
7) The plane would have got tangled in the maze of T&Tec wires in POS before it could hit the twin towers.

September 11th, 2006

Today, we remember 9/11/2001. I do not even know where to start. I pray for the families of the victims. I guess it did not matter where one was on that day but the entire country was shaken from the foundation. Something went wrong somewhere. Now it is not only that there was a failure with security but the American nature to welcome foreigners with open arms was tested. I've noticed something in the time i lived here. Americans rely on the spoken word. They believe that when you speak to them, you speak the truth. They trust people and they are very friendly. However, if they find out that they have been lied to, they will cross you out of their books. In this country a lot of things run on trust and on that day, trust was broken. There are times when we all get angry with the government and what not but really, Americans are some of the most culturally open people in the world. They welcome everyone and they are willing to learn of other people's cultures. What they did not expect was that a bunch of crazed fanatics were going to attack them because they did not believe in the same things that the psychos did.
On that day, we were on the way to school. Well college. My dad was driving and Nan and I were in the car. for some reason, we had the radio on or maybe the car we had at the time did not have a cd player, either one. So around 9 o' clock we heard this news flash that a plane had crashed into the world trade center north tower. We thought that it was not serious. I guess many people did not know what was going on for the first few minutes. Then a few minutes after we heard the first announcement, another one came on saying that another plane had flown into the South tower and it was no longer an accident. It was a terrorist attack and the reports came over that the towers had been bombed. We continued on our way to school. That morning we had Organic Chemistry class and everyone was talking about the attacks. they were saying that other universities around the country and state were closed for the day. I guess we did not realize how serious it was even then. Even our teacher, he is so funny, said, "no one will attack BCC, that's why I keep a low profile." He exaggerated the "low" and he even bent a little while saying it. Five years later, Nan and I remember his words and we still laugh. He was a very little guy, chinese and with a caribbean accent=0) Eventually, at four o' clock we were able to leave school (we found out that evening classes were cancelled) and we came home in time to see every building that was once called the World Trade Center collapse. It think the last one went around 5pm. Anyway, it was not only the two towers but the Pentagon and United Flight 93. Flight 93 fought back and the plane crashed in a field. Kudos to the heros. That night, we lit candles outside the door of our condo.
It's been five years now. Things have changed a lot from when we first arrived here in the US to now. Life changed a lot. For one, there is more fear and worry. People began to question the government more and some realized that they were being lied to. Five years later, we are still searching for Bin Laden but we have found Saddam Hussein who was not an immediate threat. I wonder where our priorities lie. i wonder if the families of the victims will ever get closure and I wonder which other country we will be distracted into next.
Today on September 11, 2006, our national alert color is orange....elevated, i think. We live by colors now. Sometimes it dips to yellow, sometimes it goes to orange-red. Sometimes i think of how life was before 9/11 and I hope things can go back to normalcy. The other day, i sold a book and I wrote the last day for a return was 9/11. I told the person that and I saw the look in his eyes. No Americans have not forgotten. Everyone who lived here at that time remembers that day. We cannot forget and yes, life has changed. These numbers, 911 are no longer recognized as the rescue services but they are seen as 9/11...nine-eleven.

The above is a link for you to find out your energy consumption. Really good to know.

This one below is a test of your knowledge on global warming..

The article I have attached as a link speaks of the permafrost melting and releasing deadly gases that will intensify the greenhouse effect. Not a very cool thing to think of but yes, it is after all "An Inconvenient Truth."

The labyrinth and the memorial stone

BCC was a strange experience for me. It was my first shot at college; the first two years of my advancement towards a professional degree. At times, I look back and think that it was a nightmare and at other times, I think of the fun I had there. The boyfriend at the time made it almost unbearable and the friends made it so much fun! On Saturday, I was tutoring in the library and I had some extra time so I walked around a little. I remembered every place in the school and I knew how to get from one building to the other without getting wet when rain fell. I guess i knew every place in the school.

While there, I went to Darsh's memorial stone. Darsh, for those who haven't read my blog, was a very good friend who died three years ago. He touched many people in the short time he lived and for many of us, we identify the good times at BCC with Darsh. He always seemed to be part of the fun. His memorial faces the Student Life building where he spent most of his time.

After, I walked towards the library. The path that i took led me past the labyrinth. I remember when the men first started painting the labyrinth and I was wondering why they were painting in circles. The labyrinth was a lot of fun. I must have been amongst the first set of people to walk in it and come out back. It's different from a maze. Less confusing and entrapping. In a labyrinth, there is a way out. I used to sit on the bench with my ex boyfriend and we argued a lot there. One day when i was alone, i walked in the labyrinth and I thought of the relationship and it was in there, when i reached the middle and was on my way out that i realized I needed to walk out of the relationship. You would walk in confused and walk out with answers. That's how the labyrinth was.
The next picture I took was of the OMNI auditorium. The jagged top is easily recognizable and even more so now since they were painted in a brighter color.

By the time i was done walking and taking pictures, it was time to tutor...I made my way back to the library.

"Brokeback Mountain" and "Head On"

On Monday, I had the day off from work. I decided to go over to Blockbuster to rent some movies. Normally I will rent a movie that created a lot of hype just to see what the fuss was about. Like "Brokeback Mountain." Now, "Brokeback Mountain" was a really well made film...in my opinion. I liked it. The scenery was breathtaking and the story was nice even though at times it did seem slow. It was set in Wyoming somewhere along the Black Hills I am guessing. Anyway, it started with these two young men who were sent up in the mountains the watch sheep during the summer of 1963. One of them was definitely homosexual and the other one was engaged to be married when he got down from the mountains. Well as it turned out, one cold night, they sleep with each other and realize that they really love each other. They leave the mountain, they get married, have kids, and four years later, they meet and rekindle the romance.
I mean, i have my views but the movie showed something. These men were happier with eachother than they were with their wives. They spoke more and were more comfortable when they were together. My whole idea is that if people married someone they did not feel comfortable with or did not have conversations with, then it would be a long, drawn-out and stressful existence. People need companionship and happiness and it is a human right to have that. We are afraid of the scriptures and what is right and wrong but who defines that? If one chose a life as a homosexual, why do humans judge? Why can't we worry about ourselves and where we are going? Instead, we label people and we try to do God's work. And i really do not believe that God will smite these people when there are murderers and people who condone genocides running loose. However, when i spoke to people at the store, they told me that they would not even watch the film. there are many homophobes in the neighborhood where i work at i guess.
Blockbuster was running a special on 3 movies so i rented two more. Actually, all through the summer they did it, which was great for me. It was the last night of the special. The other movie was "Cinderella Man." "Cinderella Man" had some very good acting and it showed a glimpse of life in the Great Depression. I like time piece movies. It is a boxing movie but not as stupid as "Rocky." Russel Crowe portrayed the life of Jim Braddock. His biography can be found at: http://www.jamesjbraddock.com/. I like boxing movies although as i said before, Rocky 2, 3, 4, 5, etc are exceptions. They should have stopped at the first one.For some reason, i think Russel Crowe was easier on the eyes than Sylvester Stallone. Also, his acting is almost a hundred times better...although he did spoil his chances with this movie not because the movie was bad, no no, but because of his little phone throwing incident. Kinda ruined it for him on the opening weekend. Renee Zelweger did a really good role as his wife though and yeah, Russel Crowe looked very much like Braddock.
Finally the last movie. I saw it on the shelf. Ami asked me why I rented Rated films. Really my answer was a stupid one but it was what I was thinking. See, the name of the movie is "Head On." I didn't notice that it was a rated movie, i just thought, "well maybe it's a chick flick that i can convince Furgie to watch with me." Let me say though, it did turn out to be an alright movie. I did watch it from beginning to end. It was about a Turkish girl who gets married to this german/turk guy to get away from her parents. it begins as a marriage of convenience but turns into love. They live a life of drugs, parties and alcohol and eventually, the husband gets arrested for murder when a guy insults his wife. She promises to wait for him to get out of jail but one night she is beaten in an alley way and close to death. a guy rescues her and marries her. she has a daughter and when she does meet her husband again, she is faced with the decision of leaving her new life for him. In the end, she stays with the second husband and daughter....And it was not exactly a chick flick. Too many graphics. it was not the best foreign film but it was humorous in some places..
Honestly, the first thing that went through my head was "Head On, apply directly to the forehead, head on, apply directly to the forehead, Head On, apply directly to the forehead." I still do not know if Head On is really headache medicine or if it is a joke advertisement. The ad is so ridiculous that i remember sitting and wondering if it was for real everytime i see it. Furgie usually says, "I wonder how you use Head On." Maybe it's a pill...and you drink with water=0). And it's funny but the first thing furgie did when she saw the movie was say, "Head On, apply directly to the forehead." Now there's also ActivOn! I think the advertisement crew ran out of ideas! I have attached url...thanks to youtube.com. I guess it is a medicine but I was still getting over the "apply directly to the forehead piece" to notice the ending statement. I just saw that this must be the world's most annoying commercial.

"Potomac "intersex" fish worry scientists"

I have copied and pasted this article....It is in my list of things to thank inconsiderate people for.

WASHINGTON - Scientists say abnormal "intersex" fish, with both male and female characteristics, have been discovered in the Potomac River and its tributaries across the Capitol Region, raising questions about how contaminants are affecting millions of people who drink tap water there.

"I don't know, and I don't think anybody knows, the answer to that question right now: Is the effect in the fish transferable to humans?" said Thomas Jacobus, general manager of the Washington Aqueduct, which filters river water for residents to drink in the District of Columbia, Arlington, Va., and Falls Church, Va.
So far, there is no evidence that tap water from the Potomac is unsafe to drink, according to Jacobus and officials at other area utilities.
Humans should be less susceptible to pollutants than fish because of their larger bodies and different hormone systems. And unlike fish, their bodies are not constantly exposed to the water.
The worrisome fish were first found in a West Virginia stream in 2003. Now, scientists are finding male smallmouth and largemouth bass with immature eggs in their sex organs at testing sites dotting the region.
Last month's testing at three tributaries emptying into the Potomac revealed that more than 80 percent of all male smallmouth bass found were growing eggs, according to Vicki S. Blazer, a fish pathologist with the

At a testing site in Washington, seven of 13 male largemouth bass showed some kind of unusual feminine characteristic, Blazer told The Washington Post. Six of the seven tested positive for a protein used to produce eggs and three actually carried eggs.
Although scientists have not identified the source or sources of the problem, the results appear to suggest that the Potomac River and its tributaries have a problem with so-called "endocrine disrupters," which can tamper with natural chemical signals.
In the past 10 years, pollutants mimicking hormones have raised alarms around the world as alligators, frogs, polar bears and other animals have developed abnormalities.
Scientists have identified a large number of pollutants that could be to blame — including human estrogen from processed sewage, animal estrogen from farm manure, certain pesticides and soap additives.
The discovery in Minnesota over a decade ago of frogs with extra legs, ovaries in males and other deformities was considered an early warning sign of environmental distress linked to farm chemicals.
Congress in 1996 required the U.S.

"I would have hoped it would have been faster, but this is a very difficult program," said Clifford Gabriel, director of the EPA's Office of Science Coordination and Policy.
