I am still recovering from staying up for the most of last night and early this morning watching the Midterm Elections results. I went to sleep only after I convinced myself that even a recount will not put the Republicans back in the senate. I guess people got tired. The races were close but it was interesting. It did not stop me from watching the combined "Daily Show/Colbert Report." That was hilarious by itself. However, I was switching to CNN to get the updated numbers.
CNN was a little biased. Well more than a little. They favored the Democrats and for most of the announcers, they couldn't keep the happiness off their faces. I was loving it. For the first time in so long, I felt that the Democratic process was going as it should, without any glitches. There is one guy that made a lot of sense though. I gotta give it to him. Senator John McCain of Arizona. He's Republican but I felt that he spoke the truth last night. In an interview, he said that the election results was a wake up call to the Republicans and they needed to meet with the President to discuss what their new strategies would be. He accepted that there was something wrong with the way his party was ruling the country.
This was after McCain saw that the Republicans had lost the House and the Senate was at stake. I turned off the tv at 3am. It was after I had convinced myself that the Dems was indeed going to be in the Senate. Hopefully, there will not be a Florida 2000 happening again. This is where we are now. Montana is called for the Democrats, Virginia is going to be recounted but the Dems lead and Missouri went to McCaskill but they may want a recount. And Nancy Pelosi made history. I like her. She's the first lady speaker of the house. Oi oi!
Today Rumsfeld resigned. I was waiting for this for a long time. I am hoping that the new guy knows a little more than Rumsfeld. Like how to really be the Secretary of Defense for a start.
Now we sit and wait to see if there will be any change. Hopefully, hopefully, there will be. It's about time.
On Monday night, I worked for three hours. to make a long story short, i had to have the cops come in and get a tresspassing order out on a customer. He was getting unruly and violent in the store and I told them that I wanted a tresspassing order. They took him outside and took his picture and told him that the next time he showed up at the store, he will be arrested. I was a little more than pissed off at him but I was not going to let him get away with his unruly behavior. What can i say, life got exciting!

I doubt it very much that the country is prepared to have a female president but it will be something interesting if it happens. We can always dream. Yes, she will be the first female president if it is so. Right now, we are dealing with the first female speaker of the house. this is the highest a woman has ever reached in politics. Well hopefully the leaders will not be throwing insults at each other for the next two years. They promised to work together so maybe we will see some real changes being made. Who knows?
It's strange you mentioned the indo-US deal. I haven't heard much talk of that lately but i will pay more attention to it in the news. You probably know more than i do here.
vami...it would be intresting to differenciate between us/european voters& indian/south asian voters...especially regarding gender apartheid........
india had indira gandhi,pakistan-benazir bhutto,bangladesh-begam zia, shri lanka-bandaranaike as women leaders.....even now many indian state gover ment are headed by womens....
but also their are seriousssues like dowry deaths, abortion of female foetus, social abuses or rapes, women health........
paradoxical! isnt it?
in my constituency 30% village heads are reserved for women...but most of them are mum & shy in administrative proceedings.......
i just want to know what do american voter think of female head...is their any gender apartheid?

america is a country filled with contradictions. most of the democratic voters do not mind a female president. there are some republicans who will not mind a female in office either but for the most part, many of them will, i think. this is just my view. on the one hand, a woman president may be able to make the changes that the men are unlikey to make but at the same time, i doubt that a woman will be voted into office for the next elections. i really do not think the country is mentally prepared for it. women have rights here but there is still an underlying mentality of male domination. for a woman to be president means that the mentality has to change otherwise, it will not make sense. she will be opposed at every angle. the good thing about the us is that there is accountability and division of power so that widespread chaos does not ensue. And i am saying, I know that countries like India and Pakistan had women presidents but how much better off are the women? they are still expected to be quiet and simple right? Change begins in the mind of an individual. Maybe we will see a difference though. I do not know. By the way, i promised someone that i would write a blog on women and their rights. I'll get around to it sometime soon.
