Reinstating the draft?

Okay, once again, I must congratulate G.W. He really did it this time! Boy are we in a mess!
Before I go any further, there is a congressman, Rangel is his name, and he is calling for the draft to be reinstated. According to my source, AOL News, the congressman is calling for the draft so that politicians will shy away from waging wars. Am I the only one wondering here? Now, with our current President, he may very well welcome the suggestion since he obviously needs more people in the armed forces. Maybe Rangel's idea can backfire. I really think, Rangel has not examined the possibilities as yet and even though the minorities and the economically challenged are the ones who join the forces, maybe he can ask for more money to be invested in education and for scholarships rather than calling for drastic measures to teach politicians about declaring war. After all, a person's life is not something that you juggle with...regardless of how poor, life is still a precious thing. You can't just come out and propose a draft because you want to send a message to politicians who want to wage wars. What the hell kind of thinking is that? What if the bill passes and it becomes a law? What if the President decides that he will take advantage of the draft? Now what do you do? You sit down and start thinking, "maybe my plan was not such a good idea?" You start hoping that you don't have a kid that is between 18 and 26?
No, the draft was never a good idea. I really do believe that a person should be able to choose whether he/she wants to be enlisted or not. This is not sounding very good to me, no matter where I look at it from. The last time there was a draft, I wasn't around but I am pretty sure, judging from all the Vietnam veterans I spoke with, the involvement in Vietnam cost the US, bigtime! I think it was 23000 and more lives and many of them were just out of high school. That was while Bobby Kennedy was running for President. That is sad. Right now, I am remembering John Lennon's "Imagine."
By the way, my source also states that 7 ouf of ten Americans are opposed to reinstating the draft. I wonder if our congresspeople consider us sometimes?
