Okay, once again, i am trying to not watch tv. It's really not hard for me at all...after all i only watch the real news (that is Jon Stewart and Colbert). As for the other programs, no, I would rather not watch. Even CNN has became biased. I think Lou Dobbs just ruined it for CNN completely. FOX is a complete waste of time and so is our local news stations. Ernesto is a tropical storm now but we are being made to believe that this storm is coming with a force that will wipe all of S. Florida off the map. I can only imagine what will happen if there was a category 2 storm!
See we all remember Katrina and Wilma from last year and the media will play on that. Really no one ever mentions what really caused devastation. We are busy fighting a war in someone else's country and we fail to fix and secure our own country. The suffering from Katrina could have been prevented if the levees were fixed. The storm didn't do the damage...no no, it was the flooding. A month before there was a program on either Discovery or NGC showing what will happen if a category 3 hurricane hit New Orleans. It was enough time to fix a few things at least. Katrina was a direct result of neglect by state and federal government. It wasn't the storm...storms happen. We were not prepared.
Now I choose to live in S. Florida because i absolutely love this place. i know that hurricanes come our way every year....so yes, i prepare in advance to avoid lines. No, i refuse to wait in line for gas. If i do not have, i do not have. As long as we have food and water that is all i care about and I really think we have enough of that. They say that there is going to be lots of rain in this one...unlike Wilma...which was a pretty dry storm (the wind blew the rain away). If there is flooding, i guess we will have a lot of mopping to do. And it's amazing that in the state of Florida when you buy housing insurance it covers every possible thing including volcanoes. VOLCANOES!!!! but not flooding. I wonder sometimes about the people who plan these things out. Maybe they were like Coleridge when he wrote "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner." Higher than a kite! So flood insurance is separate. Oh and by the way, after Wilma, our very efficient system chose to give aid to the people who did not pay for insurance on their houses. Maybe we all should do that..not pay for insurance. In fact the only reward we got was a significant jump in our premiums.
I turned on the tv, the storm is coming our way. The shutters will go down today. And we will wait....
