Well.. its nice to read this word Phagwa .. takes me to my village in Eastern Uttar Pradesh where the holi is known as phaguwa in Bhojpuri. I guess vamini you have this name of holi from your ancesters. The real fun of holi is in the thought behind it.. and as the full moon plays havok with emotions, it usually is an outlet for the very conservative village folks to give vent to their suppressed emotional desires to the one they love without telling or showing. There is one day before the holi where actually in the eastern UP village folks go about calling and abusing people in zest.. in fact I remember one time when I was in my village for holi, all the women folk of the village ganged up and throw the men out of the our house and really did lot of fun among themselves with many of them calling abuses to all the people around.. and play acted many things ... its like getting the suppressed emotions out. I was very young but it was fun watching them acting from the hidden encloser I chose to be in...
My color from the hands has still not come out.. and I have a special green tint in my hair which kind of make me look very different.. we have had great time too.. with all my north indian friends.. and my God I did have had many drinks of Thandai (Bhaang = canabis) made with milk and dry fruits. We have had lot of fun.
