We are out!!!!

Today we lost the game. There were moments that we did not look good on the field but in the last half of the game, the coach did the most brilliant thing he could have done and the thing that every Trini knew from the very beginning. Football in Trinidad is not football without two players: One is Dwight Yorke and the other is Russel Latapy. Latapy was the player he sent out to help the team and boy did he put spirit in the game. For the last minutes, we looked for latapy on the field. He shone out there. It was one attempt after another at the goal.
I am not disappointed. i cannot say there is room for that in my heart today. My team made me proud and even when there was no hope left, our Trinis in the stands were celebrating. Our fans kept the true spirit of the game. In the background, I heard "Soca Warriors" playing and then the roll of the tassa drums. Nan and I stood at attention for the anthem and sang along as it was played. Nan also sat at the couch with a bottle of aspirin and even took one. Now i can understand how people get heart attacks. My heart was racing too but I didn't venture an aspirin=0) Even though we lost, Trinidad and Tobago is now definitely on the map. Our team will be warmly welcomed in Trinbago. That is for sure! And yes, there will be parties for them. The smile never left Yorke's face.
Edwards played like a champion. Several times he ran the length of the right field and made spectacular passes. Birchell's name was not foreign to the commentators this time and we proved that we have two of the very best goalkeepers in the cup. Kelvin Jack replaced Hislop today. He is just as good but Shaka was calmer than him, i think. Latapy was the player everyone wanted to see and we are happy that we saw him. Nan and I started to scream when he got on the field. Everyone in Trinidad knows Latapy can play football against any team...and boy did he play!
So now, that we are out, I am going with Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador and Mexico. I like the South American teams. Germany will always be Germany and Miroslav Klose will continue to do what he does best....score goals but this time, I want Brasil to win a sixth world cup or any of the South American teams. Argentina has Maradona cheering for them. Maradona cheered as if he was the one playing when they beat Serbia and Montenegro, 6-0. I am waiting to see my boy Ronaldihno show off again. I think he plays on Thursday. He runs across the field like if, at any given moment, he will start doing capoiera. His footwork is incredible. Until then, I will be watching the other teams qualify. I still love this game and I am one very proud Trini.
