Well I did support the US all through their match with the Czech Republic. The Czechs played extremely well though. They really had their act together and the US was not aggressive enough with them. However, as Claudio Reyna said, they still have two matches and the US fans did not lose hope in their team. These are very patriotic people. After the match, my customers came back and we talked about the game. I guess we were all disappointed but we kept the spirit. They told me that the game with Trinidad on Saturday was better. I agree. Hoping we do better next time.
After, i watched Italy play a rather upbeat match against Ghana. I guess this was the game with the most yellow cards so far. There were fouls for almost every five minutes of game. Really, they got a little bit confrontational too. Ghana gave a good fight and in the end, the two teams had almost equal possession of the ball.
Tomorrow, Brazil will play against Croatia. Croatia is a team to look at. I know Brazil is going in with a dream team but Croatia was the team that surprised everyone in the past two world cups gone.
For me, it is hard to say who i like more. I mean, at this present time, i hope germany wins every match they play, i hope the US can win, I hope Brazil wins all the way into the final, and i want to see my Trinidad reach to a substantial position.....just to prove themselves at least. We are already proud of the Soca Warriors.
A customer told me today, "for a small country, Trinidad and Tobago has done a lot and gotten a lot of fame." So of course, i boasted...."yeah, we had Ato Boldon and Hasley Crawford in the olympics (we stick to running....no bobsledding=0) ), we had Brian Lara in cricket, Wendy in Miss Universe..." Then he stopped me to say, "well Miss Universe is nothing, Trinidad does have beautiful women, look at yourself." I guess my face turned really red...the customers have done wonders for my self-esteem!
So tomorrow, at 3, i will have a date with the TV. one has just got to love football! it's 90 minutes of adrenaline and testosterone (if men are playing) and team spirit. I told my boss that i would rather be found playing football any day even though i like cricket. He was telling me how the game is so violent and it is easy to get injured. I will risk the injuries for the fun of this game. Some of the funniest times we had was when we played football with my cousins and my brother. it will be all the girls against all the boys. Vin, my brother, is big and when he runs toward you, you had better run the opposite way before he crashes into you....the ball comes full speed towards you when he kicks it and the best you can do is turn and hope it hits you on the hip or the butt! the worst thing anyone can be when vin plays is the goalkeeper. then, you remain with purple and black marks for a week...then after that week, it's back to football!!!!!! no, we don't learn=0)
Laila arrived in Venezuela safely. I am happy for her. She sounded so happy on the phone. Today, i thought of the life she left here for the one she will have there and i was happy for her. I know she did the right thing. We spoke for a little because her mom had arranged a party for her. Didn't want to keep her for too long. I have agreed to call her....you can talk for almost 3 hours when you use a $3 calling card. We talk for long, but not 3 hours. I will call her when things settle down there for her. Until then, i guess she has lots to catch up with and lots of people to meet. I know today that what she did, she did it for her and her family and I am happy for her. Now, I am left with a $50 gift card to The Cheesecake Factory....it was a present from her and I can't wait to eat!!!!=0)
